Press Releases:Youth Dog ShowThe State 4-H Dog Show will be on Monday, August 16 at 9:00 a.m. The 4-H Dog Show will have five different sections that 4-H members can enter into for judging. The five sections are: Section 1, Dog Showmanship; Section 2, Obedience; Section 3, Conformation; Section 4, Agility; Section 5, Rally. To be qualified to enter the State 4-H Dog Show, 4-H members have to have shown their dog in their county 4-H dog show and achieved a certain level or score in Showmanship, Obedience and Conformation. 4-H members should have sold responsibility of training and competitively showing of their dogs during the current 4-H year. The Dog Show is one of the fastest growing events at the Wyoming State Fair. Pork & Lamb ContestThe University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service will sponsor a live animal evaluation seminar and contest in conjunction with the Performance Pork Contest. The Performance Pork Contest will be on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the Swine Show Arena. Registration for the evaluation contest will be from 3:30 - 3:45 p.m., the seminar on estimating yield grade and carcass quality will be from 3:45 - 4:00 p.m. and an evaluation on live contest hogs by the contestants will be from 4:00 - 4:45 p.m. There will be a junior and an adult division. An award will be presented to the winner of the junior division by the University of Wyoming Animal Science Department. There will be a jackpot contest with a $5.00 entry fee for the adult division where the pot will be split among the top two contestants and a plaque presented by the Wyoming State Fair to the top contestant. Recognition of the winners of the evaluation contest and awards will be presented at the Youth Market Swine Show on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 6:00 p.m. The Performance Pork Contest is coordinated by University of Wyoming Animal Science Extension Specialists and is intended to provide a significant educational opportunity in quality pork production. Miss Rodeo WyomingThe Miss Rodeo Wyoming contest will take place August 17- 21 at the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas, Wyo. The Miss Rodeo Wyoming pageant will take place over the course of the week with the crowning of Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2011 and her runner-up on Saturday, August 21, at 7:00 p.m. Contestants will: have horsemanship interviews with a written test, have to demonstrate horsemanship, have to make speeches, have to model, have to do a media interview, participate in an auction, perform a dance routine and answer questions, sigh autographs, do timed interviews and participate in the Wyoming State Fair Parade. Miss Rodeo Wyoming will be judged in the divisions of Appearance, Personality and Horsemanship and awards will be given for horsemanship, personality, appearance, speech, photogenic, congeniality, scrapbook, sales achievement and knowledge. Living LegacyThe Living Legacy Program will have a dedication ceremony at the Wyoming State Fair on August 20, at 1:30 p.m. in honor of the individuals and organizations that gave to Living Legacy for the 2010 year. The old Cottonwood Trees that line the Wyoming State Fairgrounds have been damaged by age and other factors and have become a safety hazard. Living Legacy is a program that, through the help of the public and organizations, funds the removal and replacement of those Cottonwood trees. At the dedication, a plaque will be presented to each donor. The plaques with be placed at the foot of each tree with either the name of its donor, the name of the organization it was donated by or the name of the person it was donated in honor of. Mustang DaysWyoming Mustang Days will be Friday, August 20 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 21 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Wyoming State Fair in Douglas, Wyoming. Wyoming Mustang Days is a competition where both professional and non-professional trainers have either a year or under 90 days (the green horse class) to train a wild horse. The horses are then entered into competition to see which trainer did the best with their horse. Events include: Halter Classes, a Lead Line Class (for children 8 and under, Riding Classes, the 2009 Yearling Showcase and the Trainer Competition Showcase. A demonstration clinic will follow Friday’s horse show events. Demonstrations will be conducted by Mantle Wild Horses and The Wyoming Honor Farm There will also be a wild horse adoption on Saturday, August 21 at 4:30 p.m. The showcase horses plus 15 halter-started wild horse yearlings will be available for adoption. All wild horses entered in this competition must have been purchased by the owner from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) or purchased from somebody else who previously purchased it from the BLM. Youth EventsThe Wyoming State Fair has multiple opportunities for youth of all ages to participate in stock shows as well as judged exhibits at the Wyoming State Fair. Wyoming State 4-H and Wyoming State Future Farmers of America (FFA) each have events specifically designed for their youth to be able to participate in and compete against one another. These events allow the youth to be judged on projects that they have been working on throughout the year, or the past couple years. These events are designed to be educational for the youth participating in them. Along with the 4-H and FFA youth events, there are also general youth sections of most events including youth stock shows and youth arts and crafts exhibits. There are also children’s divisions of some events for those under nine years old and art and crafts exhibitions for children of every age. There are even more opportunities for the youth to participate in the Wyoming State Fair with special events designed to exhibit works from both girl scouts and boy scouts. For more information on youth events at the Wyoming State Fair, refer to the Premium Book on the website or call the state fair office at (307) 358-2398. 2010 Wyoming State Fair Starts SaturdayDOUGLAS (August 9, 2010) – The 98th Wyoming State Fair will be Saturday, Aug. 14 - Sunday, Aug. 22 at the State Fair Park in Douglas, Wyo. The state fair will have free entertainment including: musical bands, a comedic hypnotist, clowns, The Great American Petting Zoo, an antique tractor pull, the Kidz and Kars parade, stock shows, arts and crafts exhibits and more. There will also be ticketed events such as: the Wyoming State Finals Ranch Rodeo, Miniature Bull Riding & Chuckwagon Races, PRCA Extreme Bull Riding, a PRCA Rodeo, a concert by Joe Diffie with special guest Lo Cash Cowboys, Pigs ‘N Mud wrestling, the Miss Rodeo Wyoming contest and a carnival as well as commercial booths and exhibits. Stock Shows include varieties of beef cattle, goats, equine, performance pork, rabbits and sheep. There are also youth livestock shows, dog shows, cat shows and a pocket pet show. Arts and Crafts exhibits include; visual arts such as painting/drawing and photography; crafted arts such as pottery, woodcraft, children’s crafts and antique machinery; culinary arts; floriculture and horticulture; needlework; home décor; and quilting. The state fair hosts stock shows, exhibits and contests for members of the Wyoming Association of the FFA and the Wyoming 4-H Department. State Fair facilities include 465 campground spaces, hosting facilities for 600+ campers or recreational vehicles, the Kidz Playground and park and picnic areas. Pioneer Memorial Museum Hosts Art Show for Regional ArtistsDOUGLAS (August 10, 2010) – The Pioneer Memorial Museum will host its 19th annual Douglas Invitational Art Show and Sale August 13-15. There will be an opening night reception August 13, 7-11 p.m. with a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Tickets are $25 and reservations can be made at (307) 358-9288. The show will continue Saturday, Aug. 14, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 19, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Quick Draw, where artists are given one hour to produce a piece of art, will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, and an auction of those works will follow. The art show will feature artwork by regional artists Gwen Bruner, Ginny Butcher, B.J. Durr, Zach Even, Casey Hunter, Karen Henneck, Diane Harrop, Wm Hugh Jennings, Wm Rogers Jennings, Linda Johnson, Becky Johnson, Gary Keimig, Alice Marlatt, Michele McDonald, Marlo McGuire, Tom Moncure, Stan Mullinnix, Dorothy Redland, Gisele Robinson, Pam Sharp, Dustin Stephenson, Carla Stroh, Sam Thiewes and Jack Wilkinson. Artist mediums include watercolor, acrylics, oils, bronze, woodcarving, pottery and jewelry. The Pioneer Memorial Museum is a year-round museum that focuses in general on the expansion of the west and more specifically on the pioneers that lived in and migrated through the west. It has photographs, artifacts, newspapers, maps, charts and descriptions of the westward expansion. There is an art display year-round with changing exhibits and a research library on the history of Wyoming. The museum is located on the Wyoming State Fairgrounds at 400 W.
